After being rushed off my feet last weekend and only managing a short visit to MK Food Revolution’s MK Feast event, it had been bugging me all week that I had missed out on trying Urban Grilla’s bbq grub. Everyone I had spoken to after MK Feast spoke highly of this local couple who run Urban Grilla out of their home in Wolverton. They prepare, smoke and BBQ all their meat and halloumi on wood or charcoal.
Just like the next very-British person, I love BBQ. Most of us (me) are terrible at doing it, but when it’s done right it’s the most delicious way to enjoy meat. So when I heard Urban Grilla were doing a takeaway evening, my order went off to them quicker than Usain Bolt at the Olympics.
For our little family of three we ordered pulled pork and lamb baps and one lamp flatbread, with sweet potato fries and Mediterranean rice.
Whilst the sweet potato fries and Mediterranean rice were perfectly pleasing, the real star at Urban Grilla is the meat. Deep smoky flavours and deliciously soft, juicy meat (sorry veggies, although they do have a bbq grilled halloumi on offer). You can tell it’s been wood smoked and handled with care. I still can’t decide whether I prefer the spongey, soft bap or the grilled flatbread with my meat. Maybe next time I’ll have a favourite. Mr LouBou and my unpredictable and fussy toddler both devoured their food in record time, so I think I can safely say it’s got the family’s stamp of approval.
The baps/wraps come in at a great price – £5.50 each including a choice of three toppings. I had homemade urban slaw, rocket and dill pickles on mine. Small bit of info for you, I LOVE PICKLES! I would eat them on everything if given half the chance. Instead of being disappointed with a lonely one which you usually find in a takeaway, there was a great number of them YAY!
So, Urban Grilla. Delicious smoky meat, generous pickles and all at a very good price.
