Autumn/Winter 2017 fashion & beauty inspo with a lil’ help from intu MK…

Last Friday night I had the pleasure of dressing inappropriately for the cold and then being ridiculously late for attending a bloggers event at intu Milton Keynes.

A style garden had been set up in the main concourse of intu and there I congregated with some lovely familiar blogging faces like the gorgeous Natalie and Amanda, and a lovely new blogger face, Lindsey, who I have followed on snapchat for ages! It was lovely to put a real face to the snaps.

Set up in the style garden was a bunch of retailers from intu, including Topshop, New Look, Karen Millen, hair experts RUSH and beauty brands from Debenhams including Clarins, GLAMGLOW, Laura Keller and bareMinerals.

Each fashion retailer had brought out their very best picks for Autumn/Winter 2017 for us bloggers to fawn over, like the rail below from Karen Millen – autumnal chic overload! 🍂

The beauty retailers had packed a ton of their products to demo and trial on us. RUSH offered curls, plaits and pretty hair fluffing!

I had the most amazing massage from the Clarins therapist. I wasn’t even aware last Friday that Clarins had their own spa inside of Debenhams. After my recent back mishap my neck has been battered and strained and the therapists hands were magic. I am definitely going to get my butt in the Clarins skin spa soon. The facials they offer sound dreamy. 😍

The makeup artist working for bareMinerals showed me how to work their foundation, powder and blush for a damn lovely finish. I was impressed with the coverage from their Barepro foundation. Will they get me to part with my usual go-to Mac Mineralize? For that little bit of extra coverage, they might. I’m musing on coverage, what’s your favourite foundation for fab coverage? Drop me a message, I’d love to hear your recommendations.

The bareMinerals makeup artist shocked me by getting me to pull off a proper rich pink blush. I don’t think I’ve ever worn one before and it’s making me think I need it to add to my current bronzers and blushers stash. Pink flushed cheeks are definitely something lacking from my life and makeup bag.

Laura Geller is a makeup brand I had never used at all and I had great fun testing out their highlighters. Highlighters have been a major trend for makeup in the last couple of years. They have been around in one form or another for years before though. I’ve always used a liquid one from Benefit called High Beam but the powdered ones at Laura Geller are quite something. They’re like hypnotic to look at in their compacts! I definitely need to explore them more, there’s so much choice with shades, even unicorn ones(!).

The team from RUSH were there giving lots of hair advice and goss on their favourite products (they are doing a 3 for 2 promotion on hair products.. yasss!). It was RUSH that introduced me to my current hair obsession, Kérastase Chronologiste Essential Balm which I use all the time. Trust me when I say, they know their stuff.

The RUSH team were also offering curls and lots of hair beautifying but I passed on them as I am avoiding any super hot tools on my locks atm, except a lukewarm hair dryer! (Hair detox – so needed!).

Whilst I was gossing with the RUSH guys, talk turned to a must-have face mask of the moment called GLAMGLOW. Who just so happened to be set up a stones throw away from us with… SAMPLES!

Skincare is definitely my thing. I have favoured an expensive skincare regime over expensive cosmetics for an age now and have the belief that if the canvas (facial skin) ain’t looked after, why on earth would the cosmetics do all they claimed they can do?

GLAMGLOW facemasks come in six different varieties and even some special editions like SONIC the hedgehog! EEE! Depending on their benefit they each look and smell very different (obvs). I have some samples and can’t wait to try them to see if they live up to their goss craze.

The rest of the GLAMGLOW skincare products smell like a Terry’s Chocolate Orange. If orangey products are your thing, mooch yourself into Debenhams for a test. You will be in heaven.

Now for the FASHION BIT. If you don’t know, Topshop are one of my consistent go-to stores. They have been high street fashion fave since the 90s. (I still own and rock a fair few bits of Topshop clothing back from when Topshop MK was situated where JD Sports is now in the centre:mk (that’ll get you thinking). And some key LouBou pieces that come back year after year like my Moto denim pencil skirt, denim jacket, army jacket, they aren’t going anywhere from my wardrobe soon, and have all no doubt achieved vintage status too. 90’s fashion ftw.

So I’m going to now focus exclusively on the TOPSHOP rail and share with you some of my own personal fave AW17 pieces that I NEED in my life…

College Check Kilt Skater Skirt // £32.00

I actually think I have a near copy of this skirt hidden away in the depths of my wardrobe, possibly made by TRIPP NYC or Lip Service, maybe Hot Topic? It’s OLD. Am I still young enough to pull off a tartan kilt? Hell yes. It’s all about styling it out. I might have to leave my knee socks at home to avoid looking Britney circa. 99 but I’m up for the challenge.

Space Motif T-Shirt by Tee & Cake // £24.00

My inner (shush) dork couldn’t resist this t-shirt. It’s space themed, it’s 90s, it’s already hanging in my wardrobe, about to be worn. The heavy weight cotton used for it is perfect for autumn/winter and I suspect it’s gonna wash like a dream because of it. Note: For a few more quid they have it in white and it has some embellishments on the design.

Boucle Textured Coat in Pink // £85.00

No matter how much I need prising out of my denim or pleather jacket, by Halloween I am always a shivering wreck and admitting that I need to start wrapping up properly. This coat has a strong cut but the snuggly factor is immense. Plus it’s just gagging to be worn with a zillion diff scarves and a beanie.

MOTO Cropped Borg Denim Jacket in Black // £59.00

Ok, see what I just said above? Sometimes I just buckle and can’t deny my love of dress down denim. So, what to do when denim isn’t warm enough? Throw some fluff at it, make it borgy. For the price it’s a STEAL, espec as my moto jackets are still going strong some decades later. This one is cropped so you can proudly show off your Kardashian (Cardassian, for me) curves, but they have an oversized, longer style in store too, if that’s more your bag.

Chainmail Long Sleeve Top with Lettuce Hem // £22.00

This top is the perfect lesson on how to make your t-shirts work for you throughout the colder months. Layers! Imagine these sparkly chainmail sleeves poking out of your favourite tees. All those slogan tees I stocked up on throughout the year, they will still be worn to death throughout winter. Mmmm, fancy arms.

MOTO Traditional Pinafore Dress in Mid Stone // £36.00

I adore pinafore dresses but my wardrobe is crying out for one in a simple blue denim. I  am so tempted to size up and wear it oversized, with a super slouchy winter knit underneath and with chunky boots.

Deflected Rib Jumper in Ivory // £39.00

Knitwear is up there as one of my most loved things about winter. Finding the perfect jumper is almost as fun as finding the perfect boy. Except you’d probably want to snuggle your fave winter jumper longer than with any boy. This one reminds me of a vintage aran wool cardigan with slouchy sleeves. It’s lush!

Suitably chilled from being out(side) in just a t-shirt and no coat (oh, the irony at an AW17 event), it was then time to say goodnight to intu. Thanks for having me intu and that damn fine goody bag which is spilling with goodies from your stores, well, I am not worthy, thank you so much. I can’t wait to test out some new schtuff. 😍
